The SIP IP Converter is a compact industrial protocol gateway designed to integrate Modbus, M-Bus and pulse-based devices into modern TCP/IP networks.

It allows legacy serial meters and field devices to communicate with Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA platforms and energy monitoring software via Ethernet.

The gateway converts Modbus RTU, M-Bus and pulse inputs to TCP/IP protocols, enabling seamless integration of energy meters, sensors and industrial equipment into IP-based infrastructures.

With its DIN-rail mounting, compact form factor and simple web configuration, the SIP IP Converter is ideal for panel installations in building automation, energy monitoring and industrial control applications.

Key Features

  • Protocol conversion – Modbus, M-Bus and pulse inputs to TCP/IP
  • Multiple serial networks into one IP gateway — fewer devices on site
  • Ethernet connectivity for integration with BMS and SCADA systems
  • Compact DIN-rail mount design for control panel installations
  • Web-based configuration for simple setup
  • Reliable industrial gateway for meter and device integration
  • PoE support — power and data over one cable
  • Designed for building automation and industrial environments

Supported Protocols

Serial Interfaces

The SIP IP Converter connects to common field devices and meters using serial communication protocols including:

  • Modbus
    • RS485 — Connect up to 32 Modbus devices
    • RS232 — Simple single-device Modbus integration
  • M-Bus - Power and communicate with up to 60-unit loads (1 Unit load = 1.5 mA)
  • Digital input / Pulse input

These interfaces are commonly used by energy meters, heat meters, water meters and industrial sensors.

IP Network Communication

Data from connected Modbus RS232/RS485 devices is converted and transmitted over Ethernet using:

  • Modbus TCP/IP
  • Modbus RTU/IP

Data from connected MBus devices is converted and transmitted over Ethernet using:

  • MBus Ethernet

Data from connected Digital input / Pulse input is converted and transmitted over Ethernet using:

  • Modbus TCP/IP
  • Modbus RTU/IP
  • MBus Ethernet

All of the above provide IP-based network communication for integration with BMS or monitoring platforms. SIP IP Converters enable devices to communicate with systems without replacing existing infrastructure.

Typical Applications

The SIP IP Converter is designed for projects requiring reliable integration of serial devices into IP-based systems.

Common applications include:

Building Management Systems (BMS)

Integrate Modbus or M-Bus energy meters into building automation systems such as:

  • Tridium Niagara
  • Trend BMS
  • Schneider Electric systems
  • Siemens Controls
  • Distech Controls
